Benefit Update: If You Have Been Fired

COBRA eligibility extended for fired workers.

Bloomberg News (12/31, Collins) reports, "US workers got an extra six months of subsidies on Dec. 19 when President Barack Obama signed a bill that also extended" COBRA "eligibility for fired workers until Feb. 28." According to Jim Trimble, manager of COBRA compliance for Ceridian Corporation, "If the premium payment has not yet been disbursed," individuals will receive a credit to their "account or...a refund." For those people whose "premium payment has been disbursed, a refund will be provided by the sponsoring employer," he added.
