Regular exercise may help increase longevity, protect against heart disease.
The Wall Street Journal (3/9, Winslow) reports that, according to research presented at the American Heart Association's annual epidemiology and prevention conference, regular exercise may help protect against heart disease and increase longevity in Americans between the ages of 50 and 69. Physical activity was also shown to help maintain overall health. Controlling certain risk factors, including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, smoking, and diet, are said to be effective means of improving health. Researchers found that regular exercise helps control some of these risk factors.
