Boston Globe calls for routine heart testing for young Massachusetts athletes.
The Boston Globe (3/7) editorialized, "Each year, about 100 young athletes around the country...die suddenly during games or practices of undiagnosed heart defects." The majority "of these conditions could be detected, and the deaths averted, through use of an electrocardiogram as part of the student's standard pre-participation physical." According to the Globe, "since two recent studies have shown that such testing is both effective and affordable, the state should take steps to make it routine."
