Insulin Pump Safety

FDA panel to discuss insulin pump safety.
The Wall Street Journal (3/4, Dooren) reports that the FDA announced Wednesday it has found that "device problems critical to insulin pumps exist across manufacturers," and an advisory panel will meet on Friday to discuss how to "minimize risks associated with the devices in these recall situations." The FDA, according to the Journal, added that over five years, 18 device recalls affected insulin pumps.
Reuters (3/4, Richwine) adds that the FDA notes there is "an increasing trend in software and hardware device problems across manufacturers." The panel will recommend how devicemakers can improve recalls and safety reporting.
