New device could provide memory cues for those with dementia.
The New York Times (3/9, D6, Bhattacharjee) reports that a device called the SenseCam, a special digital camera system developed in the UK by Microsoft's research laboratory, is designed to be worn around the neck to help people archive their experiences and create "a summary of the resulting content by picking crucial images," thus allowing "them periodically to awaken and strengthen the memory of the event." In a recent experiment, the device was used by some patients with early Alzheimer's. To date, however, Microsoft has not announced any "plans to market the device as a memory aid."
