White House to convene conference on preventing bullying.USA Today (3/10, Hall) reports that President Obama today will convene "a day-long White House Conference on Preventing Bullying." According to the White House, the conference's goal "is to dispel a commonly held belief that bullying is a normal rite of passage for kids and share ideas about how the federal government and communities can help prevent bullying and deal with its consequences." Notably, research shows that bullying "adversely affects children's mental health, academic success and ability to relate to other kids, says Mary Wakefield, who runs the Health Resources and Services Administration at the Department of Health and Human Services."
